NBS Diamonds isn't just a brand. It's a legacy, born out of pure passion, not a calculated business decision.
Named after the founder, the story of NBS goes back over 30 years, ever since he took up curating diamonds for passion without a business intention, but the gestational history stretches to 50 years.
It all began in the 1950’s , with a diamond aficionado, N K Shankaran, a man fascinated by the finer things in life: exotic teas, rare artifacts, and above all, solitaire diamonds who also happens to be the grandfather of our founder.
Long before the era of certifications and laboratories, Shankaran had a discerning eye which was developed by an innate fascination for precious stones, each selection guided not by trends, but by an unwavering devotion to perfection
At the helm of NBS Diamonds, is a man who is a high-flying lawyer by profession, but a diamond enthusiast at heart. Introduced to the world of gemstones by his grandfather at the age of 10, not only did he grew up immersed in the culture of gems and legacy, but also inherited the emotion and passion that his ancestors bequeathed.
In those days, Burmese and Ceylonese traders (from what is now Sri Lanka) would travel from house to house selling precious and semi precious stones like Sapphires, Emeralds, Rubies, Cat’s Eye and Pearls, but diamonds were rare
There were no labs or testing centres. Trust was the only validation.
One such family story is that of a blue sapphire, a prized possession that his grandfather had acquired those times and specifically bequeathed to him.
A stone so magnificent that a renowned diamond merchant of those times offered ₹1,000 impromptu, when he first set his eyes on it which was indeed, a princely sum for those days, all the more remarkable when gold itself cost barely ₹10 a gram.
Every solitaire at NBS is certified by internationally recognized gemological labs like GIA (Gemological Institute of America), IGI, or HRD Antwerp. These certifications guarantee the 4Cs of authenticity. Cut, Clarity, Colour, and Carat of each diamond.
Each certified diamond is laser-inscribed with a unique certification number on its girdle, which buyers can verify through the official GIA app or website. If the number is fake, it simply won’t appear in the system, that's the level of transparency and trustworthiness NBS offers.
NBS Diamonds does not prefer dealing in diamond-studded jewellery. We focus solely on solitaire diamonds.
However, we work with trusted jewellers to help clients set their solitaires into rings, pendants, or other personal pieces, ensuring that the setting does justice to the diamond’s value and beauty.
While few know it today, Thrissur was once a buzzing hub of diamond cutting and polishing in Kerala, much like Surat is to India and Antwerp is to the World. Early operations thrived in areas like Mundoor and Kaiparambu.
Unfortunately, labour union issues and fraudulent practices by some, led to the gradual decrease of business and subsequent closure of these units. Today, only a handful has survived, driven not by profits, but by pure passion. This passion is what still makes Thrissur the Diamond Capital of Kerala.
Most customers walk into stores asking for a one-carat or half-carat diamond, not realizing that carat alone doesn’t determine value.
Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat, matter just as much - if not more. Known commonly as the 4Cs of Diamond, when supported by certification, gives it diamonds it authoritative authenticity.
At NBS, we start with your budget, and then guide you to the best available solitaire that meets your expectations. Our pricing is based on the Rapaport Price List, the global benchmark for diamond valuation.
Whether it's a colourless D-grade stone or a GH with a subtle tint, every diamond is carefully selected, transparently priced, and honestly presented.
